JOGO DO SILÊNCIO is a completely original work and unlike anything that Edinho Santa Cruz has done. The idea came from the desire to mark his 54-year career, showing some of his instrumental compositions, inspired by his own history and by the great masters of brazilian music, such as Villa-Lobos, Zequinha de Abreu, Dilermando Reis, Pixinguinha, Luiz Bonfá and Tom Jobim.

Approved by the Culture Incentive Law – Rouanet, JOGO DO SILÊNCIO is a realization by the Ministry of Culture, and sponsored by the enterprises Tokio Marine Insurance Company and Kia Motors and supported by Dr. Alexandre Marra.

Biography

Edinho Santa Cruz has many stories to tell. The musician, singer and composer, began his artistic career at 10 years old, in the city of Passos (MG), his hometown, where he started the “Edinho e seus Brasinhas” band. His first performance was in Franca and, shortly thereafter, the Festa do Peão de Boiadeiro in Barretos.

As a result of the success that had been achieved, he participated in the talent show Brincando com os Galãs, on the former Tupi TV, and was surprised to be invited to perform at Almoço com as Estrelas, by Airton and Lolita Rodrigues. The impact was immediate and the couple invited him to a cameo in one of the highest expression of the time programs: Clube dos Artistas.

Hence arose the opportunity to record their first LP for the label Black Horse.

The large projection took place in 1978 in Fantástico, an enterteniment program on Rede Globo. In an overproduction directed by Roberto Talma, there were several hits, especially the songs “Stayin ‘Alive” and “More Than a Woman” (soundtracks to the film “Fever Saturday Night”), from the Bee Gees.

This participation has led to a series of calls from major television programs such as Globo de Ouro, Chacrinha, Hebe Camargo, Raul Gil, Flávio Cavalcante, Perdidos na Noite, among others. At that time, released the double compact “the paths of life”, directly from New York to the Fantastic.

Then came the second LP “Sonhos”, by RCA, which had the song “Quantas São” as the soundtrack to the soap opera “Ciranda de Pedra”, by Rede Globo.

Presentations abroad had already become a constant and during one of the tours we did in Los Angeles, California, the LP Flor Incendiária was recorded, with the participation of Denny Serafine (drummer of the band Chicago), the arranger Larry Williams Ronnie Foster, Sérgio Sá, and musician and producer Laudir de Oliveira (former percussionist Sergio Mendes and the Chicago group). This album was released by Barclay and resulted in three themes of global novels,“Mais uma Chance” (Champagne), “Doce Pecado” (A Gata Comeu) and “Levantar o Astral”, music of his own, opening soundtrack to Amor com Amor se Paga.

Under the pseudonym Eddy Benedict, composed and performed the “So Long” (soundtrack to the soap opera Bebê a Bordo), “Nunca É Tarde pra Sonhar” (Que Rei Sou Eu?), “My Brother, My Friend” (Barriga de Aluguel) and “Shinning Moon” (O Mapa da Mina).

In 1985, Edinho Santa Cruz was invited by César Camargo Mariano, responsible for the Festival dos Festivais, to arrange and interpret, next to the Bahia composers Roberto Mendes and Jorge Portugal, the song “Caribe, Calibre, Amor”, being one of the finalists, was launched by Som Livre in LP that took the festival’s name.

For displaying novels Explode Coração and O Rei do Gado, abroad, composed in Spanish “Gitana” and “Para Ti”.

In 1991, the company opened EB Productions, for the production of records, jingles, shows and events, winning over major customers such as Unibanco, Nestlé, Claro, Bradesco, Editora Escala, O Globo, O Diário de São Paulo, Nokia, etc.

The musical “Brazilian Latin Extravaganza” was one of his greatest productions, which showed the Brazilian music in the cities of New York and Miami, to celebrate the 500th anniversary of the discovery of Brazil. One of the musical themes was “Delight,” a bossa nova made for it, which is part of the album “Paradise”, depicting the beauties of the country.

One of the most important moments in his career was the composition of “Song For Freddie,” a tribute to Freddie Mercury, lead singer of the group Queen. After introducing it to Jim Beach (group manager), he was invited to visit the Mountain Studios, Switzerland, and watch the Montreux Jazz Festival as a special guest.

The song “Song for Freddie” came about through a dream on November 24, 1992, exactly one year after the death of Freddie Mercury. It was composed in partnership with Louis Van Dick and recorded on January 6, 1993, in Rio de Janeiro, with the participation of his friends from Roupa Nova, with arrangements and production by Ricardo Feghali.

His experience of playing live, their professionalism and interactivity with the audience, resulted in an invitation in 2001, Fausto Silva and Lucimara Parisi, director of the Domingão Faustão, to join the program in front of his band, where he remained until January 2005.

In 2004, he released the CD “You and I” with Portuguese versions of the greatest hits from the Bee Gees. The CD triggered major repercussions in Latin America, and the song “You and I” was among the most played for 6 consecutive months, reaching number one in Costa Rica.

In 2006, he released the CD “Tribute to the Bee Gees”, with the inclusion of the song “Last Forever”, which he composed in partnership Gisele Abramoff, named after Maurice Gibb, who died in 2003.

In 2008, he released the CD and DVD “Na Estrada do Rock in Concert”, recorded live, with a great orchestra, and with the special participation of great musicians and partners Glenio Salerno (drums, percussion and vocals), Sandro de Lunna (bass, guitar and vocals) and his brother Cilinho (keyboards and vocals).

Currently, Edinho Santa Cruz is on tour to release his new DVD “Jogo do Silêncio”.
